A place to feel heard, understand yourself better, and make changes that feel right.

Hello! I’m Gladys Henriquez, a Mental Health Counselor with a Limited Permit (MHC-LP) in New York. I offer counseling in person in New York City and by telehealth, in English and Spanish, under supervision through Being Unbound Mental Health Counseling, PLLC.

Maybe something in your life has become harder to ignore. You may be tired of the same conflict, overwhelmed by anxiety, or noticing unwanted patterns showing up again and again. Or maybe you’re worried about your child.

Together, we can take a step back, make sense of what’s happening, and find new ways forward.

Counseling with Gladys

My approach to counseling reflects something I strongly believe: difficult seasons do not define us. I believe every person has the capacity to grow, heal, and build a life that feels meaningful to them.

When you work with me, you have someone in your corner. Someone who will listen, be honest with you, and walk alongside you as we make sense of what you are going through.

I believe in my clients' strengths, including the ones they have a hard time seeing in themselves. We will build from those strengths while also paying attention to the parts of your story that may be painful, complicated, or difficult to understand.

Your experiences matter. So does your context. What has happened to you, what is happening around you, your relationships, your culture, your family, and the environments you move through all help shape how you experience the world. As such, throughout our work, we will also take into account these experiences.

If something we try is not helping, we readjust. We will work at your pace and make room for the parts that need more time.

My hope is that therapy feels like a place where you can be seen, supported, and encouraged to understand yourself more fully. I look forward to getting to know the experiences, strengths, quirks, and qualities that make you who you are.

When you know something with your child feels off

Maybe your teenager is pulling away, school has become a struggle, or every conversation turns into an argument. You may be trying to decide when to give space, when to step in and whether you're handling it the right way.

Instead of focusing only on the behavior in front of us, we'll look at what's happening underneath it, what keeps the conflict going and what could help you respond differently. There is room to talk about what all of this is doing to you, too.

Parents

Parenting is hard, and most parents are doing the best they can, even when it doesn’t feel that way. Every child is different, and so is every family. In our work together, we can look at what your child may be needing, what is happening between you, and what might help things feel a little more manageable.

Some of the things we may work on include communication, boundaries, understanding your child’s reactions, and repairing the relationship after difficult moments.

Children & Teens

Growing up can come with a lot: school, friendships, family changes, anxiety, big emotions, and the pressure to figure things out.

Sometimes children and teens can tell you exactly what is wrong. Other times, you may just notice that something is different. Counseling can give them space to feel heard, understand what they are experiencing, and find healthier ways to cope and express themselves.

Adults

Sometimes you just know something doesn’t feel right. Maybe something feels missing, you feel stuck, or you are not quite where you thought you would be.

Life can take us through experiences and changes we were not prepared for, and it can be hard to make sense of them on your own. In our work, we can slow things down, look closely at what’s happening, and get clear on what you need and where you want to go from here.

Therapy for adults

Therapy doesn't always have to look the same

Sitting across from someone in an office and talking works for many people. But, sometimes words are just not enough to express all that’s happening inside.

When it fits the work we're doing, we may bring in evidence-based creative and expressive activities such as art, music, writing, imagery, or storytelling to help you explore an experience from a different angle. You never have to be "good" at any of these things. The point isn't to create something beautiful. It's simply another way to express, notice, and understand.

I also value movement, mindfulness, and staying connected to the world outside the therapy room. When clinically appropriate and permitted through the practice, we may include movement or mindfulness in our sessions.

Whatever approach we use, we’ll talk about it first. You always have a choice, and if something doesn’t feel useful or comfortable, we’ll try something else. The goal is to work in a way that lets you feel comfortable enough to be honest, explore what’s happening, and be more fully yourself.
